Martial arts or the “arts of war” may seem as if they are overly connected with fighting and aggressive action and their foundations were usually prompted by a need for personal protection or defence by a group or community of people. This is not the case today but due to an overwhelming portrayal by movies television, cartoons and other media, the arts have the reputation of being used for violent and criminal ends.

Once you begin to explore the truth about learning martial arts you realise that most participants are well balanced and respectful of their fellow students. What the arts teach most of all is respect and self discipline as well as a decent amount of good manners. Everyone was a student once and everyone had to start somewhere. In fact the real battle and fight is with yourself once you begin training – overcoming your own weaknesses and negative attitudes will keep you far busier than anyone else could.
