Fighting techniques
In real life fight situations where you or your loved ones or friends are being threatened with
violence most people will be at a loss about what to do. We don’t have any fighting
techniques because we don’t normally need them! We shouldn't need them...but sometimes we do.
For anyone who has been in that situation you quickly realise that it is nothing like the "movies".
It’s not like being thrown over a table and getting up again or being hit in the face and coming back for more.
It is nasty and brutal and may involve makeshift weapons such as glass, chairs, snooker cues!.
Unless you are a very experienced fighter coming from an effective martial art or boxing tradition, you will probably only use a couple of fighting
techniques that your brain will ‘pull out the bag’ instinctively. This is our ‘adrenaline rush’ kicking in when
our bodies temporarily ‘power down’ important systems like breathing (not completely but you might remember
after a fight you were hardly breathing) and send all the signals to the muscles saying fight or get me out of
here!
You’ve probably heard of the ‘fight or flight’ syndrome – it stems from our early history when we
were about to be eaten by sabre tooth tigers and the like. Depending upon what the other person is doing we
might ‘grab’ them in order to stop what they are doing or instinctively ‘push’ outwards i.e. trying to push them
away from us.
This is a pressure situation and most of us fall back on trying to hit out with our arms, swinging wildly in a
big semi-circle or kicking out ineffectively with our feet. There will only be a couple of seconds ‘window’ in
which to ready yourself for your next moves and without proper fighting techniques we are most likely to get
hurt or end up on the floor very quickly.

What are the best fighting techniques?
If you want to avoid this situation there are some very effective systems of fighting techniques available, from
hand to hand combat training, boxing,
martial arts training and self defense
training. Amongst these different systems you will find a system suitable for every
type of person whether you big or small, slim or heftier, male or female, old or young. None of us need feel
insecure about moving around in the world and just a small investment of time in learning some fighting
techniques can improve your confidence and peace of mind.
